Lawmakers filed 62 trades between Aug. 8 and Aug. 15, 2026, with the largest single transaction a Shri Thanedar sale of Apple Inc. (AAPL) worth approximately $175,000. The Democratic Michigan representative sold the stock on Aug. 12, according to a disclosure filed Aug. 14.
Sells outnumbered buys 45 to 17, continuing a trend that has held for most of the year. Twelve lawmakers reported activity across 50 different stocks.
Late disclosures
Of the 62 trades, 18 were disclosed after the 45-day window required by the STOCK Act. That law, passed in 2012, requires members of Congress to report most stock transactions within 45 days of execution. Late filings have drawn scrutiny from watchdog groups and some lawmakers have proposed stiffer penalties.
The late trades this week came from six different members. None of the late filings involved the largest transaction of the week. Thanedar's Apple sale was filed within two days.
Top traders
Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) led all lawmakers with 13 trades. His activity included purchases in technology and financial stocks, though the specific tickers were spread across multiple sectors. Gottheimer has been one of the most active traders in Congress this year, with more than 100 trades reported in 2026.
Charles J. "Chuck" Fleischmann (R-TN) filed 11 trades, all of them sells. The Tennessee Republican's portfolio moves included reductions in several large-cap holdings. Fleischmann has reported trades in each of the past six weeks.
Tracey Mann (R-KS) reported 10 trades, with a mix of buys and sells across energy and consumer names. Kevin Hern (R-OK) filed 9 trades, all sells. Hern, who chairs the Republican Study Committee, has been a frequent seller of individual stocks this year.
John J. McGuire III (R-VA) rounded out the top five with 4 trades. The first-term Republican reported two buys and two sells.
Most-traded stocks
Apple Inc. (AAPL) saw the most activity with 3 trades: 1 buy and 2 sells. Besides Thanedar's large sale, two other members traded the stock in smaller amounts. Apple remains one of the most widely held stocks in Congress, with dozens of members reporting positions each quarter.
Organon & Co. (OGN) had 2 trades, both sells. The pharmaceutical company, spun off from Merck in 2021, has been a frequent sell target for lawmakers in recent months.
Versant Media Group, Inc. (VSNT) also saw 2 sells. The small-cap media company rarely appears in congressional disclosures, making the two sales this week unusual.
Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (PANW) had 2 trades: 1 buy and 1 sell. The cybersecurity firm continues to attract bipartisan trading interest.
Alphabet Inc. Depositary Shares representing a 1/20th Interest in a Share of Series B Mandatory Convertible Preferred Stock (GOOGN) had 2 trades, both buys. The preferred stock, which converts to Alphabet common stock, has become a popular vehicle for lawmakers looking to hold the parent company of Google without direct common stock exposure.
All told, the 62 trades this week represent a modest increase from the previous week, when lawmakers reported 54 trades. The full list of transactions is available in our latest congressional trades database.
