Rep. Tony Wied (R-WI) has become the first member of Congress in three years to disclose a purchase of UPST stock, the cloud-based AI lending platform formerly known as Upstart Holdings.
The joint holding was valued between $50,000 and $100,000 and purchased on July 14, 2026. Wied's office disclosed the trade on July 21. No other lawmaker has reported a transaction in the stock since 2023.
The Trade
| Date | Type | Amount | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jul 14, 2026 | Buy | $50,000 – $100,000 | Joint |
The purchase is Wied's 92nd career trade since taking office. His committee assignments include the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the House Agriculture Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
Upstart's platform uses artificial intelligence to assess creditworthiness based on non-traditional variables, a model that has attracted both retail and institutional attention. The stock trades on the NASDAQ with a market cap of $2.6 billion. Shares closed at $31.45 on July 21, down from a 52-week high of $76.95.
Wied's purchase comes as the company continues to navigate a volatile lending environment. The stock is down nearly 60% from its 52-week high.
The STOCK Act requires lawmakers to disclose securities trades over $1,000 within 45 days of the transaction. Wied's filing was made within that window.
Wied has been a member of the House since 2024. His office did not respond to a request for comment.
